Many artists like to use butterflies in their artwork because their beautiful wings and fleeting lives remind us that life is temporary and precious. Butterflies stand for hope, change, healing and transformation.
Butterflies can also remind us of a loved one who has passed away or represent an important battle we overcame. My butterfly art is meant to connect and resonate with people on a deeper level. I love taking my artistry even further and making custom butterfly art collections that are specific to my customers.
What Is Butterfly Wall Art?
Since antiquity, artists have created beautiful paintings featuring butterflies. Older cultures have influenced how modern artists use these insects in their work. Many artists combine butterflies with shells, flowers, and other natural things to make viewers feel connected to the world. Some artists use butterflies to show how our strength can overcome any obstacle, no matter how fragile we may feel at times. This idea is reflected in how caterpillars transform into butterflies.
Today, artists like myself still use butterflies in our work to represent this beauty and transformation. I start by making a fundamental shape that I want my work to spring from, whether that is a mandala or a heart. The final outcome is always surprising to me, as the piece takes on a life of its own!
When Did the Butterfly Wall Art Trend Begin?
Vincent Van Gogh created a series of butterfly paintings in 1889 and 1890. He made four paintings of butterflies and one of a moth. The change from a caterpillar to a butterfly shows how we can grow and change too.
Another artist, Damien Hirst, used butterflies in his work in the 90s to show how short life can be. In his paintings called "In and Out of Love," you can see caterpillars turn into butterflies, fly around, and then die before the show ends. Even after this important art show, Hirst continued to be fascinated by butterflies and still utilizes them today.
Is Butterfly Wall Art Popular?
Butterfly wall art brings a lively and natural feel to any space, making it great for interior design. These works of art also have special meaning, which can spark interesting conversations with friends and family. That’s why so many people love butterfly wall art.
Many artists are creating butterfly art to express different emotions. Butterflies are colorful and eye-catching, which helps attract attention. They also carry symbolic meanings, allowing viewers to find different ideas and feelings in each painting.
Butterfly art is wildly popular today, with many modern artists pushing their creative bounds further and further. This style of art will always be relevant because butterflies are seen as a timeless "evergreen" symbol.
